PRESENTATION – EXPLORING AMEB MUSIC CRAFT
The new AMEB WRITTEN MUSIC SUBJECT “Music Craft” was introduced to update a wide range of theoretical topics but more importantly to address the need for AURAL TRAINING within a theory course. The study of this subject integrates the AURAL aspect of the WRITTEN notation – which is very important and often overlooked in “straight theory” courses.
The presentation covers:
- New terminology (which in fact is often ‘old terminology’)!
- Integrating theoretical topics into the printed score and aural sound
- Developing music dictation – rhythmic and melodic
- Developing aural understanding from tone, timbre, instruments, scales, intervals, rhythms, simple harmony, imitation, form and construction, harmonic analysis
- Normal theoretical topics such as note naming, notation, Italian words and signs, and so on are the basic part of this course just like in theory and musicianship subjects
